General Dentist in Winston-Salem, NC

When you hear the word “general,” you might think of a leader in the armed forces—someone who strategizes, oversees operations, and ensures everything runs smoothly. In many ways, a general dentist acts as the leader of your oral health care. They’re the strategist behind your treatment plan and the expert who ensures every part of your smile is in great shape. At our practice, Dr. Keider goes beyond the basics of general dentistry, offering a wide range of services to keep your teeth healthy, strong, and functional—without the need for constant referrals. Whether it’s preventive care, restorative treatments, cosmetic services, or advanced procedures, he’s ready to help you take command of your dental health.

The Role of a General Dentist

A general dentist is a primary oral healthcare provider whose job is to prevent, diagnose, and treat various dental issues. Dr. Keider, however, stands out because of his extensive services—there are very few procedures he doesn’t provide. Unlike specialists who focus on a single area of dentistry, Dr. Keider provides nearly every type of dental service, so our patients rarely need referrals. He stays up to date on the latest techniques so that he can offer advanced procedures right here in our office—saving patients time and hassle.

Dr. Keider’s philosophy is centered on patient education and teamwork. He believes in working with his patients to make the best decisions for their dental health. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, he presents multiple treatment options whenever possible, carefully explaining the pros and cons of each, along with costs and time commitments. He even provides a written breakdown so patients can review their choices before moving forward. Prevention is also a priority—through regular checkups, cleanings, and proactive care, he helps patients avoid more complex dental issues. And when treatment is needed, he makes time for his patients, ensuring they get the care they need right away.

Preventive Services

General Dentist in Winston-Salem, NC | Comprehensive DentistryAt our practice, we believe that prevention and patient education are the foundations of lifelong oral health. With this in mind, we offer a range of preventive services designed to protect your teeth and gums, helping you avoid more serious dental issues down the road.

  • Regular Checkups and cleanings: Routine visits allow us to monitor your oral health, remove plaque and tartar buildup, and catch potential problems early.
  • Oral cancer screenings: At every regular checkup, Dr. Keider performs a thorough oral cancer screening, carefully examining all areas of the mouth for any signs of concern. For new patients, we offer an enhanced screening that uses special glasses and a specialized light to highlight potential problem areas that may be precancerous. Detecting these issues early can make a big difference in treatment outcomes and overall health.
  • Dental sealants: A simple, protective coating applied to the grooves of back teeth, sealants help prevent cavities, especially in children and teens who are more prone to decay.
  • Nightguards for TMJ disorder: If you suffer from jaw pain, teeth grinding, or clenching, a custom-fitted nightguard can protect your teeth and relieve discomfort caused by TMJ dysfunction.

By prioritizing preventive care, we can help you avoid costly and complex dental procedures, keeping your smile strong and healthy for years.

Restorative Treatments

When dental issues arise, our priority is restoring your smile with high-quality, long-lasting treatments. A general dentist provides comprehensive care to diagnose and treat dental problems. At our office, we offer a full spectrum of restorative services to repair damage, improve function, and enhance your oral health.

  • DIAGNOdent: This advanced diagnostic tool uses laser fluorescence technology to detect tooth decay in its earliest stages—even before it’s visible on X-rays. By identifying cavities early, we can provide more conservative treatments that preserve more of your natural tooth structure.
  • Tooth-colored fillings: We use durable, natural-looking composite materials to repair cavities or minor chips, seamlessly blending with your existing teeth for a flawless finish.
  • Porcelain crowns, onlays, and inlays: When a tooth needs more support than a filling can provide, we restore its strength and appearance with custom-made porcelain restorations that match your natural teeth.
  • Dental bridges: For patients missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge fills the gap by anchoring to neighboring teeth, restoring function and a complete smile.
  • Full and partial dentures: Whether you need to replace several teeth or an entire arch, we offer well-fitted, comfortable dentures to help you regain confidence in your smile.
  • Single-visit root canals: If you have an infected or damaged tooth, we can perform a root canal in just one visit, eliminating pain and saving the tooth from extraction.
  • Gum disease treatment: Healthy gums are essential to a healthy smile. We offer professional deep cleanings and personalized treatment plans to manage and prevent gum disease, preserving your teeth and overall oral health.

With our advanced technology and patient-focused approach, we can restore your smile efficiently and comfortably, so you can enjoy lasting results and improved oral health.

Cosmetic Treatments

In addition to our many preventive and restorative procedures, we also offer popular cosmetic treatments, including:

Advanced Procedures

Dr. Keider also performs advanced dental procedures for patients seeking more specialized care to restore function and improve aesthetics.

For those missing teeth, we offer dental implants to support crowns, bridges, and dentures, providing a stable solution to tooth loss. We also offer mini dental implants as a minimally invasive alternative. These narrow-diameter implants are ideal for patients with bone loss or those seeking a quicker, more comfortable solution. Despite their smaller size, they provide reliable and durable support for replacement teeth.

If you need comprehensive restoration, full mouth reconstruction combines multiple procedures to rebuild and restore your smile. This highly customized approach enhances aesthetics and ensures you can eat comfortably and enjoy a fully functional bite. Dr. Keider tailors every treatment plan to each individual’s unique needs and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on your individual needs. If you have gum disease, bone loss, or other ongoing issues, we may recommend visits every three months to stay on top of your oral health. For patients with healthier gums, every six months is usually enough to catch problems early and prevent bigger issues in the future. Your oral health is directly linked to your overall health—problems in your mouth can impact digestion, heart health, and more. Regular checkups help keep your smile and body in great shape!

Not all general dentists do, but Dr. Keider performs many surgical procedures right here in our office. He handles extractions, including wisdom teeth, as well as bone grafting, dental implants, and tori removal. If you need a surgical procedure, there’s a good chance you won’t have to go anywhere else—we can take care of it for you!

Some do, but not all. Dr. Keider does remove wisdom teeth, so most patients can have the procedure done in our office. The only time he would refer you out is if IV sedation is the best option for your comfort. If you’re feeling nervous, we offer sedation with nitrous oxide to help you relax.
