What Can I Eat After a Root Canal?

In this video, Dr. Matthew Keider explains the common issue of biting pressure sensitivity following a root canal and offers tips for managing discomfort during the healing process. Learn how to care for your treated tooth and schedule your free consultation today to ensure a smooth recovery.

The most common issue I see following a root canal is biting pressure sensitivity. This is a normal response and tends to resolve as the tooth heals. My advice to patients is to be mindful of what you eat. You can still eat fairly normally, but just be cautious if food comes into contact with the treated tooth, as it may feel a bit tender under pressure.

To avoid discomfort, I recommend sticking to a softer diet initially to be more gentle on the area. As the tooth heals, you can gradually return to eating harder foods. Most patients find that the sensitivity significantly decreases within a week, with each day bringing more improvement until it resolves completely.

If you experience any prolonged discomfort or have concerns during your healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to make sure your recovery goes smoothly and that any issues are addressed promptly.
