Can I Drive Home After a Root Canal?

In this video, Dr. Matthew Keider explains what to expect after a root canal, including whether you can drive yourself home based on your choice of anesthesia. If you have concerns about the procedure, schedule a free consultation today to discuss your options and ensure your comfort.

Following a root canal procedure, you should generally be able to drive yourself. In many cases, the procedure is performed using only a local anesthetic, depending on the patient’s preference. I can ensure you are comfortable with just local anesthetic if that is your choice.

For patients who feel nervous or apprehensive, we offer nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, to help them relax during the procedure. Nitrous oxide is a good option because its effects wear off quickly, often before you leave the treatment room. This means that even if you choose to use nitrous oxide, you should still be able to drive yourself home afterward while remaining relaxed during the procedure.
