Dental Veneers in Winston-Salem, NC

Are stains, chips, or gaps keeping you from smiling? Do you hold back a grin or a cheerful chuckle because you’re embarrassed about your teeth? If so, you’re certainly not alone—studies show that 1 in 4 adults avoid smiling, and 23% are embarrassed because of the condition of their teeth. Given that your smile is one of the first features others notice about you, these insecurities can impact how you interact with people and the world around you. Fortunately, innovations in dentistry have led to advanced treatments for patients. One such treatment option is dental veneers.

Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment offering a simple, long-lasting solution to transform your teeth and enhance your smile. Whether you want to correct discoloration, uneven edges, or minor misalignment, veneers provide a natural-looking result tailored just for you.

Understanding Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers in Winston-Salem, NC, | Book a ConsultationIf you’ve ever wished for a picture-perfect smile, dental veneers could be the solution you’ve been looking for. Veneers are extremely thin shells that cover the front of your teeth to transform their appearance. They’re like fake fingernails for your teeth.

Veneers are made from high-quality porcelain and correct a variety of cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Stains and discoloration that don’t respond to whitening treatments
  • Chicks, cracks, or worn-down teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Slight misalignment or uneven shaping

This cosmetic dentistry solution seamlessly blends with natural teeth and provides a bright, symmetrical smile. Veneers can retain their beauty for years with proper care, giving you the confidence to smile without hesitation.

Lumineers

You may have heard of Lumineers®, a brand of “no-prep” veneers. These are even thinner porcelain veneers that don’t require us to prepare your teeth before placing them. With standard porcelain veneers, Dr. Keider will remove a thin layer of enamel to accommodate the thickness of the veneer so it doesn’t look bulky or out of place. Because Lumineers are so thin, Dr. Keider can bond them to the surface of your teeth without altering your natural tooth structure. While not quite as strong and durable as standard veneers, Lumineers are a good option for those looking for a more conservative and reversible procedure.

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Whether you choose a single veneer to enhance a small lateral tooth or opt for 8-10 veneers for a full smile makeover, you can enjoy many benefits:

  • Natural-looking appearance: Lab technicians customize porcelain veneers to achieve your desired color and shape. We’ll make sure they look and feel natural and that they blend in with your smile for a harmonious look.
  • Minimally invasive: Dental veneers are less invasive because they require less enamel removal than other treatments, such as porcelain dental crowns. The minimal removal of enamel helps preserve more of your natural tooth structure.
  • Easy maintenance: Porcelain veneers need the same care as your natural teeth. Simply brush twice daily, floss regularly, and keep up with your dental checkups.
  • Durability and stain resistance: With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 15 years or even a lifetime. They’re also highly resistant to stains, so you can keep your smile bright without specialized maintenance.
  • Decay resistance: Porcelain veneers have a non-porous surface, meaning they won’t decay or develop cavities. However, the natural teeth beneath them are still vulnerable, so it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Improved confidence: By enhancing your smile, veneers can boost self-confidence and improve your overall quality of life.

The Dental Veneers Process

Veneers can dramatically improve the appearance of your teeth. You may think such a transformation calls for a complicated procedure, but it doesn’t. The process is actually quite simple.

Initial Consultation

Dr. Keider is meticulous and detail-oriented, taking the time to find the best solution for your unique needs. During your consultation, he will carefully assess your dental concerns and goals to determine if veneers are the right option for you.

At this visit, Dr. Keider will also take digital scans of your mouth and create models of your teeth. He’ll adjust the models to simulate the changes in your smile. If the models meet your expectations and you decide you’d like to move forward, the next step is to prepare your teeth.

Tooth Preparation

For standard porcelain veneers, the teeth must be prepared so that the final result looks and feels natural. Dr. Keider will first administer local anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable. He will remove a thin layer of enamel from your tooth’s surface to make room for the veneer.

Then, Dr. Keider will take impressions of the prepared teeth. He’ll send those to the dental lab, where technicians will carefully and strategically craft your veneers. This fabrication process typically takes about two weeks. In the meantime, you will wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth.

Final Veneer Placement

Once your custom veneers are ready, Dr. Keider will replace the temporary ones. He will bond the permanent veneers using special dental cement and make final adjustments, ensuring the perfect fit and proper bite alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, getting veneers does not hurt and is essentially painless. Getting veneers is a minimally invasive procedure, and Dr. Keider will administer local anesthesia to make you feel as comfortable as possible as he reshapes your enamel. Immediately after, you may experience slight sensitivity, but this is temporary.

Veneers can be made from various materials, including tooth-colored composite resin. Made from a blend of acrylic and glass particles, these veneers are sculpted and hardened in a single visit. Unlike porcelain veneers, they require little to no tooth preparation, making them a minimally invasive and cost-effective option. While they offer instant aesthetic improvements, they aren’t nearly as durable as porcelain veneers. In fact, composite veneers typically last about 5–7 years.

With standard porcelain veneers, returning to your normal teeth isn’t possible because of the preparation involved. Part of the veneer process is removing tooth enamel to make space for the veneers, and your enamel does not regenerate. That means if you choose porcelain veneers, you’ll need to continue to have something covering your tooth structure.

However, with no-prep Lumineers and composite veneers, it is possible to reverse the procedure. Because these treatments don’t involve enamel removal, we can simply remove the veneers if needed, allowing your natural teeth to remain unchanged.
